Nityananda's Appearance Day Festival

On Thursday, February 8th, the Krishna House held a festival for the appearance of Lord Nityananda. Here is the story of the festival in pictures...

Long before the program started, devotees worked hard to get the temple in order for the festivities. The temple was decorated with blue and yellow streamers and balloons, and the front alter had fresh day lillies.
The deities, Sri Sri Radha Natabara had on their white outfits with flower and ribbon garlands.
Srila Prabhupada was decorated with lillies at His feet and and a carnation garland.
The Jagannatha Deities were in attendance for the festivities
All glories to Sri Guru and Sri Gauranga!
Then the program started at 6:30 p.m. with kirtans, the congregational chanting of the Holy Names of the Lord.
The kirtans were so intense they could be heard outside the temple down the block.
Next came Abhishekam, the bathing of Lord Nityananda. Devotees bathed the Lord and offered flowers.
Gaura Nitai Prabhu spoke on the many wonderful qualities of Lord Nityananda and told of his pastimes.
The Krishna House Players then presented The Deliverance of Jagai and Madhai. Our narrator, Bhaktin Tijana, sets the scene on the streets of Navadvipa.
Lord Nityananda and Haridas Thakura, played by Hema Malini (left) and Bhaktin Nicole (right), discuss the spreading of Lord Chaitanya's mission.
Lord Nityananda and Haridas Thakura come upon a householder (played by Rasa Vilasini) and convince him of the importance of chanting the Lord's names. But the householder is startled when he hears Jagai and Mudhai and runs inside to bolt the door.
Jagai and Mudhai, played by Bhakta Henry, left, and Bhaktin Diane, right, roam the streets drinking, being obnoxious, and harrassing people. When approached by Lord Nityananda and Haridas Thakura and asked to chant the names of the Lord, Jagai and Mudhai become agitated and chase them off.
Lord Chaitanya, played by Rasa Manjari, speaks of chanting Krishna's name and instructs all that this is the cheif way of attaining love of Godhead.
Lord Nityananda and Haridas Thakura come to Lord Chaitanya with news of today's preaching, and how Jagai and Mudhai would not listen. Lord Chaitanya convinces them to try again with Jagai and Mudhai.
Back on the streets, Jagai and Mudhai are drinking and causing great commotion. When Madhai throws a clay pot at Lord Nityananda, Jagai begs him to stop, but Haridas calls for Lord Nrsimhadeva.
Lord Chaitanya appears and as He is ready to teach Madhai a lesson, Lord Nityananda begs him to stop.
Both Jagai and Madhai surrender to the Lord and accept japa beads.
The play ends with Lord Chaitanya proclaiming kitran for all. All glories to Sri Guru and Sri Gauranga!
Lord Chaitanya a.k.a. Rasa Manjari continues with the kirtan!
And kirtan goes on...
And on...
With ecstatic dancing by the devotee of the temple!
With every program held at the Columbus temple, there is always prasadam at the end of the evening.
Be sure to stop by next week to share in the experience of chanting, dancing, and feasting. Haribol!
